Impact of Long Covid on Economy and Markets
Long Covid has reached millions of people who are temporarily, partially, or permanently disabled; about one-third are of labor force age (16-65). Estimates are as high as more than 20 million impacted people including several hundred thousand children. The numbers keep growing as additional information is observed. We will discuss how this large shock affects the economy and financial markets. The implications include healthcare costs, disability benefits and payments, wages and related labor costs for businesses and other entities, need for organizations to alter management structures. Americans have not experienced a surge in post-viral disease in over a century so this Long Covid problem is a massive shock to every living person in the United States and similarly around the world.
